Short answer: Benchmark Human Capital worked with The Endurance Group (TEG) on a tax advisory AI for tax professionals. TEG compared it against competing tools on realistic tax scenarios, instructed it to reference the US tax code directly, fed it Benchmark's own tax strategies, and put it behind a login.
The Client
Benchmark Human Capital is a professional employer organization (PEO) that provides HR services for small businesses. Its Benchmark IQ brand covers tax advisory and strategy, financial advisory and CFO services, and accounting. Michael Gazzano is the CEO.
The Challenge
In tax, an answer that sounds right and is wrong is worse than no answer. Benchmark wanted an AI that tax professionals could use as a reference, not one that improvised.
The firm already had the raw material: a library of tax strategies and a tax resolution guide. The goal was to turn it into a tool people could trust and Benchmark could offer to customers.
The Solution
TEG started by measuring. The same realistic tax scenarios went through competing tools, and TEG compared the answers and the IRS sources each one cited. The scenarios included a return checklist for a couple with W-2 jobs, a side business and stock sales, a move from sole proprietorship to LLC, an international expansion, and the home office deduction.
Then TEG built:
- A tax planner persona that builds a taxpayer profile one question at a time and skips what does not apply
- Instructions to reference the US tax code directly and link to online resources
- A tax resolution persona, tested with questions about IRS notices such as the CP14 and CP523
- A knowledge base of Benchmark's own tax strategies, replacing sample plan documents
- Account creation and login on the Benchmark IQ website, so access sits behind a sign-up
The Result
Benchmark ended with a working tax AI, a login-gated website to offer it from and, in Gazzano's words, "a clear strategy for growth." His full statement:
"The Endurance Group was instrumental in helping me create an AI that knows the US tax code inside and out, providing an invaluable reference tool for tax professionals. They also offered insightful business advice on how to scale our AI solution effectively. Thanks to TEG, we now have a powerful tool that enhances our service offerings and a clear strategy for growth. I highly recommend The Endurance Group for their exceptional technical and business acumen."
Michael Gazzano, CEO, Benchmark Human CapitalHow do you build a tax advisory AI that stays accurate?
Ground it in the tax code and your own strategies, require sources, and test it against realistic scenarios before anyone relies on it. That is how this one was built:
- Tell it to work from the tax code and link to sources
- Feed it your firm's own strategies, not generic or sample material
- Compare it with other tools on the same scenarios, answer by answer
- Position it as a reference for professionals, with a person making the call
