What is Claude Duet?

Claude Duet is a research preview from Anthropic: a separate app where Claude works as a proactive agent. It reviews your connected apps, sends a morning brief, flags what needs you, and asks for your approval before it sends, pays, signs or deletes anything. Access is by waitlist for US Pro and Max subscribers.

Anthropic announced Claude Duet on October 21, 2026, describing it as "a new app where Claude works as a proactive agent." It is built, in Anthropic's words, "for professionals and small business owners with more on their plates than they can track." Here is what it does, who can use it, and where a business still needs more than one app.

What does Claude Duet do?

Regular Claude waits for you to ask. Duet comes to you.

Every morning

A short daily brief

Claude reviews your email and calendar, highlights what matters and can start first steps such as draft replies.

All day

It watches your apps

It checks connected accounts every few hours and messages you only when something needs attention.

On request

Bigger jobs

It takes on tasks from scheduling to dashboards, forecasts and decks, and returns the results in the app.

Always

Approval first

It shows the exact action and waits for your approval before it sends, pays, signs or deletes.

It works with connected apps such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, HubSpot, QuickBooks and DocuSign. One early user, broker Jess Provencher of Pro Homes, said of a showing mix-up it caught: "[This is] exactly the kind of thing I want caught without having to ask."

Who can use Claude Duet, and how do you get started?

Today you need a Pro or Max plan, a US-based Claude account and an invitation from the waitlist. Anthropic's help article says Team and Enterprise plans are planned for later, with no date. To get started:

  1. Join the waitlist on the Claude Duet page.
  2. Use the same email as your Claude account, and enter your plan and phone type (iPhone or Android).
  3. Wait for an invitation. They go out in waves, so there is no guaranteed date.
  4. When invited, follow the setup steps on your phone.
  5. Sign in with your Claude account and connect the apps you want it to watch.

What are the limits of Claude Duet?

It is a research preview, and Anthropic is open about the rough edges:

  • It can misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent, so review its drafts and approval requests.
  • It checks your accounts at intervals, so an urgent item can arrive late.
  • Background work such as the morning brief counts toward your plan's usage limits.
  • It does not make calls or send texts. It can send emails from connected accounts with your approval.
  • Some actions are off limits even with approval, such as trading securities or moving money between accounts.
  • Microsoft 365 is not yet available as a connector.

Is Claude Duet safe for business data?

Anthropic says Duet is designed to show you the exact action and wait for approval before anything consequential, to keep your passwords and sign-in tokens out of the chat, and to let you disconnect any app. It also says no defense against prompt injection, where malicious text in an email or web page tries to steer the agent, is perfect.

This part is our view. Start with accounts where a mistake is cheap, read every approval request before you tap yes, and leave sensitive systems for later. For a broader look at how Claude handles business data, see our guide to Claude data privacy.

Claude Duet or a Claude team: which does your business need?

Duet looks promising for an owner or executive who wants help with their own inbox, calendar and follow-ups. A business has a bigger job than that.

Claude Duet

Built for one person

Your inbox, calendar and errands. It lives in a personal app with its own usage limits.

Managed Claude

Built for your team

Shared workflows connected to your company systems, staff who are trained to use them, and a team that maintains and improves them.

Shared workflows need to be connected to your systems, tested, documented and owned by someone. Your people need to be trained to use them. And someone has to keep them working when tools and Claude change. That is the work of assess, build, manage: we find the tasks worth automating, build the solutions, and stay on as your Managed Claude team. The two fit together. An owner can use Duet personally while TEG builds the team's workflows.

What should you do this week?

  1. Join the waitlist if you are the kind of person who would use a proactive assistant. It costs nothing extra on Pro and Max.
  2. List what you would hand off. Write down the follow-ups, scheduling and reporting you wish someone else handled. That list works for Duet and for your team.
  3. Separate personal from team work. Anything several people rely on belongs in a shared workflow, not one person's app.

Frequently asked questions

What is Claude Duet?

Claude Duet is a research preview from Anthropic: a separate app where Claude works as a proactive agent. It reviews your connected apps, sends a morning brief, flags what needs your attention and asks for approval before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything.

Is Claude Duet free?

It is included with Pro and Max plans at no extra cost during the preview. Its background checks and larger tasks count toward your plan's usage limits, so it can use them up faster than regular chat.

Can my whole team use Claude Duet?

Not yet. Anthropic's help article says access is for US Pro and Max subscribers admitted from a waitlist, and that Team and Enterprise plans are planned for later without a date.

Does Claude Duet send emails and messages on its own?

No. Anthropic says it is designed to show the exact action and wait for your approval before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything. It does not make calls or send texts.

Does Claude Duet replace a Claude implementation partner?

In our view, no. Duet is a personal assistant for one person's inbox, calendar and tasks. Team workflows connected to company systems, staff training and ongoing maintenance are a different job.

The bottom line

Claude Duet is an early look at AI that works on its own schedule rather than waiting to be asked. It is worth watching and, for individuals, worth trying. For a business, the lasting advantage comes from the workflows your whole team can rely on.

The assessment takes about 3 minutes and you see your results without entering an email.

Facts are as of October 22, 2026 from Anthropic's announcement and help article. Claude Duet is a research preview and features may change. Opinions and recommendations are TEG's own.
